Internal Loop Series:     collaged photocopy installation

Uses the everyday technology of a simple copier as a medium to capture and reproduce the human image, reflecting on various histories and techniques of portraiture while exploring techniques of copy art. By extension, the process reflects contemporary selfie-culture, but intentionally subverts and substitutes the phone and screen with a copier and paper in an attempt to grasp the intangible through the object. Collage techniques via the human hand are used to fragment and manipulate the form and surface of the original image, using deconstruction as a tool to expose distorted perceptions of self and identity. The resulting text and images echo both vintage zine & contemporary meme cultures while representing inner states brought forward, as the loops that play on repeat in our minds while we grapple with ourselves and the state of the world around us.
